0:00 Greetings, Next Level employees! Coach Bradley here, and in Module 3 of our Referee Trainings, we’re going to review attire, equipment, and preparation for your games.
0:13 Let’s talk about what you’re going to wear out there on the field. Here’s a picture of myself, circa 30 pounds ago, back when I was playing D-line.
0:22 I’m wearing my referee uniform: it’s tucked into my shorts, with my whistle around my neck and my penalty flag in my hand or pocket.
0:32 A couple of rules: No slides, no sandals, no slippers, and definitely no headphones. We want you to look the part out there.
0:39 Look professional. If it matters to you, it will matter to everyone in the stands and everyone on the field, so conduct yourself like a pro.
0:50 Before each and every game, we’ll provide you with a rules card—a little cheat sheet, about 4x6 inches—that can stay in your pocket and serve as a quick reference for anything that comes up during the game.
1:00 And finally, please wear athletic shorts or sweatpants (like joggers) and tennis shoes.
1:12 Here’s a quick screenshot of what the rules cheat sheet looks like. It may seem big here, but it’s actually a 4x6 card that fits right in your pocket.
1:18 It has every penalty listed: offense, the type of penalty, and how to assess it. For example, five-yard penalties, loss of down for flag guarding, blocking, relieving, and penalties like illegal motion and false starts.
1:35 We’ll cover all of these penalties in a later module. The card also includes a snapshot of defensive penalties.
1:42 You’ll also find notes on extra point tries—where they’re from—and how to get first downs, along with any other key referee notes.
1:51 On the other side of this card, you’ll find your lineup card, which we’ll discuss in a later slide.
1:56 We’ll see you in our next training!
